Camp Hitaga

Building Caring, Confident Youth  &  Future Leaders

Alumni in Action
In Support Roles

The “Together We Build” (TWB) campaign was launched by a group of alumni who came together at Camp Hitaga for Camp Fire’s 100th Anniversary on July 31, 2010.  A plan was developed to meet the financial and leadership challenges of the Iowana Council, and goal of raising $250,000 by the end of 2012 was set.

We have been very pleased with the response so far.  We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the 2010 & 2011 donors, and ask that if you have not yet participated in this campaign, you will now. For more information, see the "Support" page on the Iowana Council web site.  Complete details are available on the original campaign website linked below.

"Alumni Work Weekend"

Work Days are every Saturday in April - you would be most welcome to help at any of them! The weekend of April 28-29 will be a special time for Alumni to gather together at camp to help with spring cleaning and improvements, to share each others company.

Typical Work Day tasks include:
* Cleaning and moving mattresses back to seasonal cabins * Sweeping and resupplying seasonal theaters * sorting and inventorying craft supplies and other program materials * Painting inside and out * washing windows * fixing screens * litter patrol * leaf raking * special projects for those with specific  plumbing, electrical, carpentry or other  skills * etc.

It's all more fun when done by large, friendly groups!

Agenda and pre-registration details TBA.

Sue "Stick" Braun (Netahi '70) joined the fun when McKinley Jr. High's 8th grade came to Hitaga in May, 2011.  She taught them the Hitaga way to build fires - and guided some of them through roasting marshmallows for the very first time!

Halane "Pooh" Cummings (Rainbow 1996-98) was a great mad scientist during Halloween Trails at Hitaga in October 2010, with her current camper daughters as her assistants! She played that role again in 2011 - while her daughters graduated to being great Trail Guides.
